If you follows news, then you must be knowing a recent buzz about Whatsapp gold, stated to be new and improved version Whatsapp. A viral message, according to some users who reported on Twitter where distributed everywhere on luring users to download the Whatsapp Gold, but later it was found that it’s a malware to infect users smartphone.

Some sources suggests that they were able to infect many smartphone as many users were tricked to download this app.

The messages that was circulating on social media was, ‘ WhatsApp Gold’ was until now used by ‘big celebrities’ and includes some new features like ability to send 100 images at once, video calling, ability to change WhatsApp themes, free calling and more. Also, there was another messages that the ‘WhatsApp Gold’ is not available to all users and you can download and install this app only through invitation to make it more realistic.

The hackers gave their website address along with their message and link given inside the message is www.goldenversion.com, when we try to click on this address, it leads to an error 404 message. So far it is not yet clear as to how many people have been affected by the scam but some sources suggests that they were able to infect many smartphone as many users were tricked to download this app. Whatsapp Gold is not available on Google Play store or Apple App store.

Whatsapp Gold scam is similar to the previous ‘WhatsApp Plus’ scam that surfaced few months ago and took away many users private data. The company which is owned by Facebook has already said that it will ban the devices that include this unauthorised malware. “WhatsApp Plus is an application that was not developed by WhatsApp, nor is it authorised by WhatsApp,” says the company in its FAQ page

Whatsapp has also alert the users that it would never ask anyone to upgrade or download another app, via text messages. According to Whatsapp recent statement, it would reach its users over official point of contact like emails. They have wrote that they would recommend users to not click on the given link inside the massage.

Whatsapp which is owned by Facebook has over a billion monthly active users. It was also mentioned in the report that it has over 70 million users in India alone.
